Former AAMI chief faces perjury charges
A former managing director and two other employees of AAMI have been summonsed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
Robert Belville (pictured), corporate affairs manager Phil Oswald and repairer network manager Barry Martin are listed for a committal mention set down for the 18 August that will consider pleas in relation to a charge of perjury in relation to a previous court case relating to AAMI's recommended repairer scheme.

At a committal mention the defendants must state whether they will plead guilt or not guilt and list any witnesses they wish to call at a committal hearing where a magistrate will decide if there is enough evidence for the matter to proceed to a higher court.

If the case does proceed to a higher court all three men could face perjury charges under the Crimes Act.

The maximum penalty for perjury is 10 years imprisonment.

The issue has arisen for evidence the men gave in a case brought against AAMI by former repairer and Melbourne businessman Tony Murdaca.

Some years ago Tony was involved with issuing repair franchises on behalf of AAMI with whom he enjoyed a close relationship.

However, the two parties later fell out in what could be described as a big way'.

Since then they have crossed swords in a number of legal arenas including a current case in the Melbourne Supreme Court in which Tony is suing the insurer for breach of contract.
